JOINT RESOLUTIONS.

No. 13.

Joint resolution giving the assent of the General
Assembly of Maryland to the erection of a
hotel by Frederick Friend at Fort Washing-
ton, in Maryland.

WHEREAS there is about to be introduced in

925

the Congress of the United States a resolution
to the following effect : "Joint resolution author-
izing the secretary of war to grant a permit to
Frederick Friend to erect a hotel upon the lands
of the United States at Fort Washington, Mary-
land."
Resolved by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in

Preamble.

Congress assembled, That the secretary of war
be and he is hereby authorized to grant permis-
sion to Frederick Friend to build a hotel upon
the lands of the United States at Fort Washing-
ton, Maryland, upon such site and upon such
plans and dimensions as may be approved by
the secretary of war ; provided, that the State
of Maryland, by its legislature and governor,
shall, by proper legal enactment, give the consent
of said state to the erection of such hotel, and
that the building or buildings erected shall be
removed at the expense of the owner or owners
whenever the secretary of war shall so direct,
and no claim for damages by reason of such re-
moval shall be made upon the government of
the United States; and, provided further, that
the building so erected shall be subjected to state
and national taxation as other property.
And, whereas, the assent of the State of Mary-
land is necessary to give full effect to the right
to erect said hotel ; therefore,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of

Permission
granted.

Maryland, That the assent of the State of Mary-
land is hereby given to the erection of said
hotel, and the governor of the state is hereby
authorized and directed to certify to said assent
by transmitting to the proper authorities of the
United States a copy of these resolutions duly
signed and sealed with the great seal of Maryland.
