Male Departments, with the exception of No. 3, which is at the
corner of Pitt and Front streets.

No. 2 has about 200 Girls—Miss M. McDermott, Principal,
Miss G. McDermott, Assistant.
No. 3 has about 150 Girls—Mrs. Ross, Principal, Miss Brown,

No. 4 has about 150 Girls—Mrs. King, Priacipal, Miss King,
Assistant.
No. 5 has about 160 Girls—Miss A. L. Story, Principal, Miss
L. Simpson, Assistant.
No. 6 has about 130 Girls—Miss M. Godman, Principal, Miss

Night Schools are kept, in the same buildings, by the same
teachers, for which they are allowed some extra compensation.
These have upwards of 500 Scholars.
The High School is located in a large airy hall at the corner
of Hanover and Lombard streets, and has nearly 100 pupils.
Here the boys are instructed in the classics and the higher
branches of the Mathematics. Before admission to this School,
the pupil must have attended one of the Primary Schools at least
one year, and pass through the ordeal of an examination which
shall prove that he is qualified to enter upon the studies of the
Department. This School is under the charge of the highly ta-
lented and accomplished Mr. N. C. Brooks, Principal—assisted
by Mr. Crabster, who is worthy of his station.
The salary of the Principal is $1,500, and of his Assistant
$350. The Principals of the Primary Schools receive $1,025
per annum, and the Assistants $625. Principal of the Female
Department are paid $450 per annum. Assistants $200.
