The office is open for business during the week,
in winter season, from 7 A. M. till 6 P. M. Sum-
mer from 6i A. M. till 7 P. M. On Sundays from
9 till 10 A. M. and one hour after the eastern mail
is assorted in the afternoon.
Under present arrangements the office is open also
from 7 to 7? P. M. for delivery of the Evening Mails.
Persons who have private boxes, or with whom
the carriers keep monthly accounts, wishing to pay
postage after the office is closed, can do so by put-
ting a slip of paper round their letters, requesting
to be charged.
Arrival and Departure of the Principal Mails.
Eastern Mail arrives at 11 1/4 P. M. Closes 8 A. M.
" at 6 1/2 P. M. " 7 P. M.
Southern Mail arrives at S" P.M. " 9P.M.
Western do. 6 P. M. " 6 A. M.
Chambers'g & York 7 P.M. " 8 A M
routes except Sund'y
Annapolis, do. 8 A. M. " 8 A. M.
Washinston, (Extra,) 8 P. M. " 8 A. M.
Winchester & Fred'k 6 1/2 P. M. " 6 A. M.

Norfolk Mail arrives on Wednesday, Friday and
Sunday morning about 8 A. M., and closes OB Mon-
day, Wednesday and Friday at 3 P. M. Winter ar-
rangement. Summer, daily, except Sunday.

BATES OF POSTAGE.

All distances under 30 miles, 6 cents — over 30 and
under 80, 10 cents — over 80, and under 150, 12|
cents — over 150, and under 400, 18 1/4 cents — over
400. 25 cents. Letters consisting of 2 pieces, dou-
ble — 3 pieces, treble — 4 pieces, or one piece, if it
weighs an ounce, quadruple the foregoing rates.
Letters for Foreign Ports, to go by ship or other-
wise must have the American inland postage paid
thereon.

Harper's Ferry, 12| P. M. Frederick, 8 A. M. and
12 P. M. Ellicott's Mills, 7 1/2 A. M. 12 M. and 4 1/4

WASHINGTON BRANCH.

Leave Baltimore daily at 9 A. M. and 5 P. M.
land 11 1/2 P. M. — Returning, leave Washington daily
fat 6 A. M. and 5i P. M.

PHILAD'A WILMINGTON & BALTIMORE.

The Cars carrying the U. S. Mail, leave Pratt
street Depot daily at 9A.M., arrive at 3 1/2 P. M.
The passengers arrive in Philadelphia, at 3 1/0 P. M.,
in full time for the afternoon cars to New York.
Burthen Cars leave the Depot, corner of Presi-
ident and Fleet streets, daily, for the transportation
of Merchandise and commodities generally.

THE EAGLE LINE

Leaves BALTIMORE DAILY, on the arrival
of the PHILADELPHIA CARS, for Washington

more aud Ohio Rail Road Depot, Pratt street.

EMMITSBURG AND CHAMBERSBURG.

Stages leave BALTIMORE every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday, at 7 o'clock, A. M. Ar-

Springs and Chambersburg.
For seats apply at Goddard's General Wayne
Inn, corner Baltimore and Paca ets.
