CHAPTER 120.

 

AN ACT to repeal sections one hundred and fifty
seven and one hundred and fifty-eight, of Arti-
cle seventeen of the Code of Public Local
Laws, relating to Queen Ann's county, and
enact in lieu thereof, the following, relating to
Weights and Measures.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That sections one hundred and fifty-
seven and one hundred and fifty-eight of Article
seventeen of the Code of Public Local Laws relat-
ing to Queen Ann's county, be and the same are
hereby repealed, and the following enacted.

Sec. 157. The County Commissioners for Queen
Ann's county shall annually in the month of
April, appoint one judicious, discreet citizen. of
said county, as Keeper of standard of weights and
measures for said county, whose duty it shall be,
after giving at least fourteen days notice in some
newspaper published in said county, of the times
and places; attend at all towns and villages, of
said county, with the weights and measures, and
try all the scales, beams, weights, and measures,
and condemn such as are deficient, and stamp
such as are correct, used in buying or selling,
by any person or firm; and all scales, beams, steel-
yards, or any other instrument used by any person
or firms, or skippers; either in buying, selling, or
weighing grain, that may be taken in any granary
where grain is received for shipping, and it is
hereby made the duty of every person or firm en-
gaged either in buying, selling, or receiving grain
for shipment, to meet the Standard Keeper at some
one of the places named, with all of the steelyards,
scales, beams and weights used by him or them,
and have them tried and stamped.

the Standard Keeper, shall be such as are used at
the Custom House in the city of Baltimore.

as in their judgment, may be a just compensation
