80 ~  Letter of Governor Copley for administering of oaths

Maryland

William and Mary by the grace of God of England Scotland France & Ireland King and Queen Defender of the Faith ~  To our trusty & well beloved Francis Jenckins & John Winder, Greetings. Whereas we have lately by a comisssion under our Lesser Seale of our sd Province nominated & appointed you the sd Francis Jenckins & John Winder and the severall other persons in the sd commission named to be Commissioners & Justices for the keeping of peace in & for our County of Somerset with full Power & Authority to keep our County Court there at such Dayes & times as by the Law in the case is made & provided, Now Know ye that we reposing great trust & confidence in the fidelity & prudent circumspections have assigned you and by vertue of these presents doe give unto you full power & authority, you the sd Francis Jenckins having first taken the actuall oath of Commissioner & Justice of the Peace of afsd County upon the holy Evangelists which oath we doe hereby empower & authorize you the sd John Winder duely to adm’r & you the sd Francis Jemckins having received & taken the said oath we do hereby Authorize you to Adm’r the like oath of Commis’nr & Justice of the Peace unto the sd John Winder & the rest of the Comss’rs of the County Crt which being done & performed that then you call & cause to come before you the other persons nominated & appointed to be Com’rs & Justices of the peace of our sd County & duely & truly administer unto them & every of them joyntly or severally the said oath of Comiss’nr & Justice of the Peace of our sd County they also taking the same upon the holy Evangelists.  And when yee have so done Wee do will & command you that you do under your hand & seales certifie us of the whole proceedings herein without delay into our Court of Chancery wheresoever it shall then be together with this writt given at St Maryes this 20th of July in the 4th year of our Reign Ano Dom 1692
