CHAPTER 9.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
71 of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
the State of Maryland, title "Allegany County, "
sub-title "Cumberland, " as enacted by the Acts of
the General Assembly of Maryland of 1914, Chapter
017, providing for the registration of the voters in
the City of Cumberland, and to add an additional
section to be known as 71 A.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 71 of Article 1 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, entitled "Allegany
County, " sub-title "Cumberland, " as enacted by the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of 1914,
Chapter 617, providing for the registration of voters in
the City of Cumberland, be and the same is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted to read as follows, and that said
Article 1 of said Code of Public Local Laws be, and the
same is hereby further amended by adding thereto a
new section to follow immediately after Section 71 and
to be known as 71A.

71. The Mayor and City Council of Cumberland shall,
from and after the general registration to be made in
1922, cause to be maintained a registration of the legal
voters in the city wards and precincts of said city, and
the general registration to be made in 1922, shall, to-
gether with such additions, changes and alterations, as
may be or become necessary, constitute such registra-
tion; said registration shall be made and corrected in
the manner provided in the general registration law of
the State, and shall specify the residence of the voter on
each street, lane or alley and such registration shall be
essential to the right of voting at any election held under
this charter, but shall not be conclusive evidence of such
right to vote; all applicants for registration must be
citizens of the State of Maryland, and resident in the
City of Cumberland for one year, and registered or en-
titled to registration as a voter in Allegany County; said
Mayor and City Council shall annually on or before the
first Monday of February in each year after the year
1922, elect two persons of opposite political faith to act
