pose of their meeting, and warning all such claimants to
appear and present evidence of their claims.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That upon completion of
their investigation of any number of claims sufficient to justify
a report, they shall, from time to time, report the result of
their investigation of such claims to the Governor without
waiting for the completion of their work. And the Governor,
on examining such report, and being satisfied therewith, shall
direct said Commission to submit the same to the respective
departments of the Federal Government concerned therewith,
whose .duty it may be to investigate and report thereon, and
also to submit said report to the Maryland delegation in Con-
gress with request that the payment of said claims he urged
upon the Federal Government.

SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That said Commission
be and it is hereby authorized to employ, with the approval
of the Governor, a stenographer and such other clerk or clerks
as may be needed, and incur such other reasonable expenses
as may be found necessary in carrying out the provisions of
the Act.

SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That said Commission,
in addition to the powers hereinbefore given, is authorized and
empowered as follows:

(a) Each member thereof may administer such oaths as
may be necessary in the conduct 9f said investigations;

(b) To send for such persons and papers as may be neces-
sary in such investigations and to require their attendance.

Should any person so required as a witness, or to produce
papers, fail to respond, the said Commission shall report such
failure to the Superior Court of Baltimore City, if the hear-
ing is being held in said city, or if held in any of the counties
of the State then to the Circuit Court for such county, and
said Court upon being satisfied of such failure shall deal with
such case as though such person had failed to obey a summons
of said Court.

land (Revised Edition 1915), title "City of Baltimore,"
