1829.                                                                        LAWS OF MARYLAND.

  CHAP. 85.  
shall have been assigned to him for the time being, by the said
Mayor, (except in the absence of another wood corder from
his proper district,) such wood corder, so inspecting or cording
wood, shall forfeit and pay the sum of two dollars for
every cord of wood so inspected or corded by him, and so in
proportion for any less quantity; the said penalty to be recovered
as small debts now are, by suit in the name of the State
of Maryland; one half of the said penalty to be paid to the informer,
and one half to the State of Maryland.
Wood in woodyard
subject to all
regulations.
    Sec. 4.  And be it enacted, That all firewood deposited in
woodyards or other place of deposit in the city of Baltimore,
for the purpose of sale, shall be subject to the like regulations
with regard to inspection and cording, which are now in force
with regard to wood landed at the wharves in the city of Baltimore.
Trial of appeals.
    Sec. 5.  And be it enacted, That in any appeal or appeals
from the decision of any wood corder or wood corders, the
Mayor of the city of Baltimore be, and he is hereby authorised
to direct such appeal or appeals to be tried by any three disinterested
persons in the same manner that such appeals are
now tried by three wood corders.

                                        CHAPTER 86.

An act for the relief of John L. Hawkins, of Charles County.
    Examination directed
—levy authorised.
    Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Levy Court of Charles County be, and they are hereby
authorised and required, to examine the claim of John L. Hawkins,
for taxes which he alleges to have paid on two hundred
and fifty acres of land more than he possesses, and ascertain
the true amount of such claim and levy the same on the assessable
property of said county; and the money, when so levied,
shall be collected and paid to the said John L. Hawkins
or to his legal representative, by the sheriff of the county, in
the same manner that other county charges are collected and
paid.

An act to promote the preservation, improvement, and increase
                              of Shell Fish, in this State.

beds authorised.
    Section 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That it shall be lawful for any citizen of this state to
locate and appropriate, in any of the bays, sounds, rivers,
