                                    RESOLUTIONS.                                                                                                                                       1829.  

of Joseph Smoot, a native of this state, and now a Lieutenant
in the Navy of the United States, as evinced in two brilliant
actions during the late war with Great Britain, that is to say,
the action between the Hornet and Peacock, and the Hornet
and Penguin.

    Resolved Unanimously, That the for the purpose of evincing
this admiration for such honorable services, the Governor be,
and he is hereby authorised and required to procure and present
to Lieutenant Joseph Smoot, of Dorchester county, a
sword; and the Governor is hereby authorised to draw on the
treasurer of the Western Shore for such sum of money as
may be necessary for the fulfilment of these resolutions.

                                            No. 12.

A Resolution in favor of the securities of Charles Jones, late
               Sheriff and collector of Somerset county.


Passed Jan. 29, 1830.
    Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That all
proceedings on the judgments obtained by the State of Maryland
against Charles Jones, late Sheriff and Collector of Somerset
county, and his securities, be, and the same are hereby
suspended until the first day of January eighteen hundred
and thirty-two, Provided, that nothing herein contained, shall
be construed to release the right of the state to any property
real or personal, which has already been taken in execution
of the said Charles Jones or his securities; And provided also,
That this resolution shall not take effect unless the securities
of the said Charles Jones, and the executors or administrators
of such of them as may be dead, shall certify in writing
to the clerk of Somerset county, their assent thereto, on or
before the fifteenth day of April next.

                                            No. 13.

A Resolution in favor of Jonathan Morris, of Washington
    county, in the state of Pennsylvania, who was a captain in
    the army of the Revolutionary war.


Passed Feb. 2, 1830.
    Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Treasurer of the Western Shore, be, and he is hereby authorised
and directed to pay to Jonathan Morris, a captain in the
Revolutionary war, or his order, a sum of money equal to the
half pay of a captain, in quarter yearly payments, as a further
remuneration for his services during the revolutionary war.
