Somerset fst    Att a court of his Lordship the Right Honrble Frederick Absolute Lord and
Propry of the Provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &c. held at Princes Ann Town
in and for the County afd. the third Tuesday of November being the Seventeenth day of the Same Month Anno
Dom. one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty One by his Said Lordships Justices the peace in the Same County
to keep Assigned of Whom were present

Whereupon the Court being Called Set as above and Proceeded to Business in Manner following Vizt
His Lordships Commission of the Peace being Produced here in Court was Openly Read as follows Vizt
Frederick Absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron
of Baltemore &c. To Benjamin Tasker, Charles Hammond, Samuel Chamberlain, Phillip Thomas
Edward Lloyd Richard Lee Benedict Calvert Robert Jenkins Henry, Daniel Dulany Stephen Bordly and John
Ridout Esqrs. Isaac Handy, Sampson Wheatly, Joseph Gilliss, Ephraim Wilson, Samuel Adams, William Winder
Ephraim King, George Gale Jur. and Thomas Jones of Somerset County Gentlemen Greeting Know ye that we
have Assigned you and Every of You Joyntly and Severally our Justices to keep our peace within our County of
Somerset and to do Equal Law and Right to all the Kings Subjects Rich and Poor According to the Laws
Customs and directions of the Acts of Assembly of this Province So far froth as they Provide and Where they are
Silent According to the Laws Customs and Statutes and Reasonable Customs of England as used and practiced
within this Province for the Conservation of the peace and Quiet Rule and Government of the Kings
Subjects within our Said County and to Chastise and Punish all or Any Person or Persons offending Against the
Said Acts Laws Statutes and Customs or Any of them According to the directions thereof and to Call before you or Any
of You all those who in our County afd. Shall threaten to do any bodily Harm to Any of the Kings Subjects or to
burn their houses or otherwise break our peace and Misbehave themselves to find Sufficient Security of the
peace and good behaviour to us and the Said Subjects and if they Shall Refuse to find Such Security that then
You Cause them to be Committed into Safe Custody untill they Shall be delivered by due Course of Law from thence
Also we have Assigned you and Every three or More of You of whom we will you the Said Benjamin Tasker
Charles Hammond Samuel Chamberlain Phillip Thomas Edward Lloyd Richard Lee Benedict Calvert
Robert Jenkins Henry Daniel Dulany Stephen Bordly, John Ridout, Isaac Handy, Sampson Wheatly, Joseph
Gilliss Ephraim Wilson and Samuel Adams or one of You always to be one our Justices to Enquire by the Oaths
of Good and Lawfull Men of our County afd. by Whom the truth of the Premisses may be the better known
of all and all Manner of felonies Petty Tresons Murders Rapes upon White Women Wilfull Burning
of Any Dwelling house or out house Contiguous to and Used with Any Dwelling House or Any other Outhouse
wherein there Shall be any Person or any Goods or Merchandizes Tobacco Indian Corn or Fodder and all other
Capitall Offences done or Perpetrated by any Negro or other Slave and Likewise all Consulting Advising and
Conspiring of Negroes and other Slaves to Rebell or Raise any Insurrection or to Murder or Poison any person
or to Ravish any White Woman or to Attempt to burn any Dwelling house or Outhouse Contiguous to or
used therewith and of all Trespasses Engrossings Rogratings Forestallings and Exertions whatsoever and of all
other Misfeazances and Offences Whatsoever of Which Justices of our peace Lawfully may or Ought to Enquire
by Whomsoever or howsoever in our County afd. done or Committed or Which may hereafter happen to be done or
Committed and also of all those who in our County afd. in Riotous Manner have Gone or Rode or Shall hereafter
Presume to Goe or Ride with Armed force Against our Peace to the disturbance of the Kings Subjects and of all
Such who in our County afd. have Lain or shall hereafer Presume to Lie in Wait to Maim or kill any of the
Kings Subjects and also of all Ordinary keepers or other persons who have Offended or hereafter Shall
