the Sume of five pounds Sterl money to be Leveyed of his Goods and Chattles
Lands and Tenements Conditionally that if the s.d Alice Brown Should
not make her personal appearance before the Justices of this Court
as an Evid.c for his Lordship against the afd W.m Coursey and now at this
Court to wit y.e 20.th Day of June Anno Dom. 1727 y.e s.d Alce haveing app.rd
his Recognizance is Discharged

 A writt haveing Issued against the said Hannah
at his Lordships Suit to Answer unto an Indictment
for fornication the Sherf of Kent County to whome
the s.d writt was Directed makes Return thereof to
this Court here In these words viz.t Non Est Inventus p Jn.o Gresham Sherf
Kent County fs.t The Jurors for the right Hon.ble The Lord prop.ry that now is
for Kent County afd upon their oaths do present that Hannah Lawson
late of S.t pauls parish in the County afd Spinster the tenth Day of
August Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred twenty and Six at the parish afd
in the County afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court Did Commit
fornication with a Certain person to the Jurors afd unknown and Did
permit the Same unknown person then and there to have Carnall
knowledge of her Body and to Beget then and there a Bastard Child on
the Body of her the Same Hannah to the high Displeasure of Almighty
God to y.e Evill Example of all others in Such Case offending Contrary to y.e
peace of y.e s.d Lord prop.ry that now is his good Rule and Government and
against the form of y.e Act of Assembly in that Case made & provided

    On the Back of y.e preceeding Indictment was as foll.s viz.t True Bill Sam.l Groome
foreman

    And the afd Hannah Lawson in her proper person Comes and Saith that She
Cannot gainsay y.e Indictment afd so as afd against her Brought nor Can She
Say but that She is guilty of the premisses above upon her imposed as by
the afd Indictment it is alledged and thereupon Submits to the Court
Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here to wit at y.e Court house in the
Town of Chester in Kent County this twentyeth Day of June Anno Dom.
Seventeen hundred and twenty Seven that the said Hannah Lawson
Receive at y.e publick whipping post fifteen Lashes well laid on her Bare
Back till y.e Blood appears as a punishment for her afd Crime of Committing
fornication in form afd Confest also it is Considered that She pay the Sume
of three hundred and fifty two pounds of Tobacco Accrueing on the
premisses afd to y.e officers of this Court
