GENTLEMEN OF THE SENATE,

WE propose to proceed immediately to the election of a council to the governor. Allen Bowie Duckett,
John Scott, Francis Digges, Richard Hall Harwood, Doctor Reverdy Ghiselin, Philip Reed, Richard Tilghman
Earle and Doctor John Maxwell, are put in nomination by this house. We have appointed Mr. Somervell and
Mr. Ennalls to join any gentlemen you may appoint to examine the ballots.

The clerk of the senate delivers the following message:

BY THE S E N A T E, November 12, 1805.
GENTLEMEN OF THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

WE agree to proceed immediately to the election of a council to the governor, and have appointed Mr.
Hayward and Mr. Houston to join the members named by your house to examine the ballot boxes. No person
is put in nomination by the senate in addition to those mentioned in your message.

Which was read.

The house having qualified agreeably to the constitution and form of government, proceeded to the choice of
a council to the governor; the ballots being deposited in the ballot bor, the gentlemen named to strike retired,
and after sometime returned and reported that Allen B. Duckett, Reverdy Ghiselin, Richard T. Earle, Fran-
cis Digges and Philip Reed, had a majority of votes.

Whereupon, RESOLVED, That Allen B. Duckett, Reverdy Ghiselin, Richard T. Earle, Francis Digges and
Philip Reed, be, and they are hereby declared to be, the council to the governor.
The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

WEDNESDAY, November 13, 1805.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday, except. Mr. Stuart. The proceedings of yes-
terday were read.

Petitions from Jacob Loudenslager, of Baltimore county, Elizabeth Keech Cartwright, of Saint-Mary's coun-
ty, and James Hicks, of Caroline county, praying acts of insolvency, were preferred, read, and referred to the

committee appointed on petitions of a similar nature.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled. An act for the more effectual preservation of the breed
of wild deer in Somerset county. ORDERED, That Mr. Jackson, Mr. Hyland and Mr. Frazier, be a committee

to prepare and bring the same.

A petition from Lawrence Brengle, of Frederick county, praying an extension of the time limitted for him
to complete his collections for the years 1802, 1803 and 1804, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Kuhn,
Mr. Waters and Mr. Cockey, to consider and report thereon.

On motion, Leave given to withdraw the petition of Richard Waters, of William, of Somerset county, for
the purpose of referring it to a special committee. ORDERED, That Mr. Hyland, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Smoot,

be a committee to consider and report thereon.

A petition from James Williams, of Saint-Mary's county, stating, that he is unable to procure a support, and
praying that a law may pass, authorising the levy court of Saint-Mary's county to levy annually a sum of money
for his support, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Leigh, Mr. Hebb and Mr. Plater, to consider and
report thereon.

On. motion, the question was put, That the enclosures contained in the communication from the executive,
endorsed " confidential, " be now read? Resolved in the affirmative.

Which being read throughout, the letter from the governor of Massachusetts, with the resolution of the le-
gislature of that state respecting an alteration of the constitution of the United States, were read and referred
to Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Mercer, Mr. Stephen, Mr. Shaaff and Mr. Ogden, to consider and report thereon.
