16 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1805.

Mr. Bowks, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Benjamin
Cushwa, Martin Rickart and John Manning, of Washington county; which was read the first time and ordered
to lie on the table.

A petition from James R. Pratt, and others, securities for the late sheriff and collector of Queen-Anne's
county, both deceased, stating, that there are still sums to a large amount due upon their books, and praying
that a law may pass authorising the petitioners to collect the same, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr.
Sudler, Mr. Gleaves and Mr. Nicholson, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Linthicum, from the committee, delivers to the speaker, a bill, entitled, An act to open a road from
Barnsville, in Montgomery county, to Zachariah Maccubbin's mill, and from thence to intersect the main road
leading from Frederick-town to George-town, at or near Log-town; which was read the first time and ordered
to lie on the table.

A bill, entitled. An act for the relief of Thomas Webb, of Montgomery county, was read the second time,
passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

A petition from George Fullam, stating, that he served as a soldier in the revolutionary war, and praying an
allowance to be made for his support, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Chapman, Mr. Stephen and
Mr. Ringgold, to consider and report thereon.

The house adjourns until Monday morning 9 o'clock.

MONDAY, November 18, 1805.

THE house met. Present the same members as on, Saturday. The proceedings of Saturday were read.
Mr. Stuart appeared in the house. Mr. Frisby Henderson, a delegate returned for Caecil county, appeared, and
after qualifying in the mode prescribed by the constitution and form of government, and taking an oath to sup-
port the constitution of the United States, took his seat in the house.

A petition from Thomas L. Judge, of Baltimore county, praying an act of insolvency, was preferred, read,
and referred to the committee appointed on petitions of a similar nature.

On motion, ORDERED, That the committee of claims procure six copies of the votes and proceedings of the
last session of the general assembly, for the use of the house of delegates.

Mr. Watts, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Thomas Nicholls, of Simon, of Montgomery county.
report, that they have taken the same into consideration, and find, from the vouchers exhibited, that the said
Nicholls purchased from William Marbury, agent to the state of Maryland, two hundred and fifty acres of land,
lying and being in Montgomery county, at thirty-six shillings per acre, and from an agreement made with the
agent it was stipulated, that an accurate survey of the aforesaid lands should be made by said agent, and
not at the cost and charge of the purchaser. Your committee are of opinion, that from the contract on the
part of the state's agent, the said Nicholls ought to be reimbursed the expences of surveying the land aforesaid;
they therefore recommend the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby directed to pay to Thomas Nicholls,
of Simon, or his order, the sum of twenty-nine pounds five shillings, with interest thereon from the 12th day
of July, 1797, being the actual expence incurred and paid by said Nicholls in surveying and ascertaining the
quantity of land aforesaid.

Which was read.

Mr. Sturgis, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to authorise and empower
the levy court of Worcester county to levy annually a sum of money on the assessable property of said county
for the purposes therein mentioned; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

The bill, entitled, An act authorising Lawrence Brengle, late collector of Frederick county, to complete his
collection, was read the second time and passed.

The report on the petition of William Gardiner, was read the second time, and the resolution therein con-
tained assented to.

The clerk of the senate delivers the bill, entitled, An act granting leave to the trustees of the Bethel con-
gregation, in Harford county, to receive a deed for, and hold, the land therein mentioned, endorsed; " By the
" senate, November 14, 1805: Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

" By order, T. W. HALL, clk.
" By the senate, November 16, 1805: Read the second time and will pass.

" By order, T. W. HALL, clk. "
Ordered to be engrossed.

On motion, Leave given to withdraw the petition of George Fullam.

On motion, ORDERED, That the report of the examiner-general for the eastern shore be referred to Mr.
Lloyd, Mr. Spencer and Mr. Denny, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Enoch Combs, of Saint-Mary's county, stating, that he purchased of William B. Atkinson
part of Woolsey Manor, in the county aforesaid, which was purchased by said Atkinson from the state, and
