30 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1806.

The following resolutions were read.
RESOLVED, That the governor and council be and they are hereby empowered to order such repairs to be
made in the senate chamber, and in the room occupied by the house of delegates, as to them shall seem necessary;
and the treasurer of the western shore is hereby directed to pay the amount of such bills as shall be approved
of by the governor and council, out of any unappropriated money remaining in the treasury.

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and directed to subscribe,
for and on behalf of this state, for —— shares in the Baltimore and Frederick-town turnpike road, and for

shares in the Baltimore and Reister's-town turnpike road; that the money for the shares so subscribed be
paid out of any unappropriated monies in the treasury, to the president and directors of the respective roads, or
their order, when the shares as above directed shall have been subscribed for.

On motion, ORDERED, That the bill to regulate and discipline the militia of this state, be recommitted for

amendment.

The following message was read, agreed to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 1, 1806.

Gentlemen of the Senate,

BELIEVING, as we do, that the business of the house can be acted on by the fifteenth of the present month,
we therefore propose, with the concurrence of the senate, to close the session on that day.

Mr. Frisby, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of James
Cruikshanks; of Kent county, an insolvent debtor; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Sudler, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to compel justices of
the peace to return all recognizances taken before them by the first day appointed by law for the meeting of the
county courts in the several counties in this state; which was read the. first time and ordered to lie on the table.
A petition from Thomas Beall, of Allegany county, stating, that the possessors of several lots in Cumber-
land, which are on ground-rent to him, had removed to different parts of the western territory, by which means
he is unable to collect the same, and praying some relief, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Bruce, Mr.
Shaaff and Mr. Briscoe, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Bruce, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to confirm and make valid
certain proceedings of the orphans courts in different counties o£ this state, or the justices thereof; which was
read the first time and ordered to lie on, the table.
Mr. Woodward, from the committee, delivers to the speakers bill,. entitled, An act for the relief of Richard

G. Hardesty; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
The house adjourns until to-morrow. morning 9 o'clock;.

TUESDAY, December 2, 1806..

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.
A petition from sundry inhabitants of the city of Baltimore, praying that a law may pass authorising them to
shut up a ten feet alley in said city, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Aisquith, Mr. R. Steuart and Mr.

Little, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of the city of Baltimore, praying an extension of Pratt-street, was pre-

ferred and read.

On motion, the house proceeded to ballot for a committee to consider and report thereon; the ballots being
deposited in the ballot box, the gentlemen named to strike retired, and alter sometime returned and reported,
that Mr. Aisquith, Mr. Watts, Mr. Chapman, Mr. Winder, Mr. Dickinson, Mr. R. Steuart and Mr. Bruce,
Were elected.

Mr. B. Hodges has leave of absence.

Petitions from sundry inhabitants of the western and eastern shore against the extension of Pratt-street, were

preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on the petition for the extension thereof.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of the city of Baltimore, counter to the petition for an extension of Pratt-
street, was preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on the petition to which it is counter.

A petition from the president and directors of the Union bank of Maryland, praying an amendment to their
charter, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Aisquith Mr. Forwood and Mr. Winder, to consider and

report thereon.

A petition from the rector and vestry of St. Thomas's parish, of Baltimore county, praying a law to authorise
a lottery for the benefit of said parish, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Harryman, Mr. M. Brown,
Mr. Little, Mr. R. Steuart and Mr. Watts, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Samuel Jones, of Baltimore county, praying a law may pass authorising him to hold real pro-
perty, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Little, Mr. Watts and Mr. Harryman, to consider and report
thereon.

A petition from Hugh Sands, of Baltimore county, praying a special act of insolvency, was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr. Aisquith, Mr, Jackson and Mr, R. Steuart, to consider and report thereon.
