76 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1806.

opinion, that it would be proper to authorise the governor and council, in the recess of the general assembly,
to cause the said record books to be repaired; the committee, therefore submit the following resolutions:

RESOLVED, That the register of the land-office for the western shore be and he is hereby empowered and di-
rected, to cause by general alphabet of patents, from the year sixteen hundred and eighty to the year, seventeen
hundred and fifty-nine, to be transcribed into a new book, for performing which service the said register shall
be allowed at the same rate which the late register of the said alike. was allowed for the general alphabet of cer-
tificates by him transcribed, and shall, on passing an account or accounts therefor with the auditor, be paid by
the treasurer of the western shore the amount of the accounts so passed out of any unappropriated money re-
maining in the treasury.

RESOLVED, That the governor and council be and they are hereby authorised and requested, at any time du-
ring the recess of the general assembly, upon the application of the said register, to ascertain the state of such
of the record books in the said office as shall be by him pointed out as requiring to be repaired, and to direct and
cause such repairs to be made to the covers of the books, as they may deem necessary tor the better preserva-
tion of the records therein contained.

Which was read.

The amendments proposed to the bill concerning the chancery court, were read the second time, agreed to,
and the bill ordered to be engrossed.

Mr. Sudler, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An additional supplement to an act,
entitled, An act for erecting buildings for the use of the poor in Queen-Anne's county, and for other purposes;
which was read the first and second time by especial order, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

Mr. Smoot, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Joseph Ennalls, John Eccleston and John Hodson, of
Dorchester county, report, that they are of opinion, from the circumstances set forth by their petition, that it
is reasonable, and may with propriety be granted; they therefore recommend the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That all proceedings against Joseph Ennalls, and his securities, and all proceedings against Wil-
liam Ennalls's securities, and likewise against the representatives and securities of Eliza Hodson, deceased, on
their bonds to the state of Maryland, for the purchase money due this state for the sale of the Indian land's, be
and the same are hereby suspended and stayed until the first day of December, eighteen hundred and eight.

Which was read the first and second time by especial order, and the resolution therein contained assented to.

Mr. Bruce, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act authorising the collection of
certain ground-rents due on lots in the town of Cumberland, in Allegany county; which was read the first time
and ordered to lie on the table.

A petition from Littleton and Ephraim Furnis, of Worcester county, praying that a road running through
a village called New-Town Village, as the same has run from the time of first erecting said village, may be
established as a county road, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Bishop, Mr. Sturgis and Mr. Dashiell,
to consider and report thereon.

The bill authorising the levy court of Baltimore county to levy a sum cf money for the purpose therein men-
tioned, was read the second lime and passed.

The following resolution was read.

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and required to subscribe,
on behalf of this state, for —— shares in the Farmers Bank of Maryland, reserved for this state, and immedi-
ately to pay to the president and directors of the Farmers Bank of Maryland the amount of the shares so sub-
scribed.
Mr. Kerr, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Joseph Dawson, an old soldier in the fifth Maryland
regiment during the revolutionary war, beg leave to report, that they have taken the same into consideration,
and being of opinion that it is reasonable and ought to be granted, submit the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and required to pay unto
Joseph Dawson, of Talbot county, late a soldier in the revolutionary war, a sum of money equal to half pay as
a soldier, annually, in quarterly payments, during his life, in addition to the half pay which he now receives,
as a full reward for the meritorious services rendered his country in establishing her liberty and independence.

All which is submitted.

Mr. Muir, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled. An act for the punishment of forgery,
and for other purposes; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

On the second reading of the bill to provide for the election of commissioners of the levy by the people, the
question was put. That the further consideration of the same be referred to. the first day of June next? The
yea? and nays being required, appeared as follow;
