VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1807. 17

On motion, Leave given "to bring in a bill to revive and aid the proceedings of the orphans court of Saint-
Mary's county, and for other purposes. ORDERED, That Mr. W. H. Brown, Mr. Sudler and Mr. Gardiner, be
a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

The house proceeded to the second reading of the bill to increase the salary of the chief judge of the sixth
judicial district, and, on motion, the question was put, That the further consideration of the same be postponed
until to-morrow? Determined in the negative.

On motion, the question was put, That the word "chief" be stricken out of the title of said bill? Deter-
mined in the negative.

On progression, the question was put, That the word "judge" after the word "chief" be stricken out?
The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:

The house being equally divided, it was declared in the affirmative by the speaker.
On further progression, the question was put, That the words"quarter yearly to the said chief judge, or
his order, by the clerk of the court of oyer and terminer and gaol delivery for Baltimore county, out of the
money by him received for ordinary and retailers licenses, hawkers and pedlers licenses, licenses for ferries and
billiard-tables, and other licenses for retailing and vending spirituous liquors, " be stricken out? Resolved in the
affirmative.

On motion, That the words " the same fund, and in the same manner, as is directed by the act before referred
to, granting salaries to the judges of the different judicial districts, " be inserted in lieu of the words stricken out ?
the question was put, That the further consideration of said bill be postponed until to-morrow? Determined
in the negative.

The question was then put, That the house agree to the said amendment? Resolved in the affirmative.
On motion, That the following words be added to the said bill? viz. "And be it enacted, That there shall be
allowed to the chief judges of the third and fifth judicial districts the following sums of money, to wit: The
sum of ——— dollars to the chief judge of the third judicial district, and the sum of ——— dollars to the chief
judge of the fifth judicial district, in addition to the salary now allowed them by law, " the question was put,
That the first blank therein be filled up with the words " six hundred dollars ?" Determined in the negative.
The question was then put on five hundred dollars. Determined in the negative.
The question was then put on four hundred. Determined in the negative.
On motion, the said amendment was withdrawn.
The question was then put, Shall the said bill pass? The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:
