poses. ORDERED, That Mr. Baer, Mr. Harryman and Mr. Sappington, be a committee to prepare and bring in
the same.

The bill to revive and continue an act, entitled, An act authorising Joseph Green, late sheriff and collector of
Charles county, to complete his collection, was read the second time, and passed.

Petitions from sundry inhabitants of Baltimore, Anne-Arundel and Prince-George's counties, counter to the
petition for a road from the city of Baltimore to the city of Washington, were preferred, read, and referred to
the committee appointed on the petition to which it is counter.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, A further supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the
relief of the poor of Caroline county, and to repeal part of the act of assembly therein mentioned. ORDERED,
That Mr. Young. Mr. Bayard and Mr. Hughlett, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

A petition from sundry members of various denominations of christian societies in this state, praying persons
may be prohibited from selling spirituous liquors within three miles of any assemblage for religious worship, was
preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Welch, Mr. Wright, Mr. Hart, Mr. Seth and Mr. Stansbury, to consider
and report thereon.

On motion. Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act supplementary to an act for the valuation of real
and personal property within this state. ORDERED, That Mr. M'Mahon, Mr. Hilleary and Mr. Boyle, be a
committee to prepare and bring in the same.

Mr Baer, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A further additional supplement to an
act to incorporate companies to make several turnpike roads through Baltimore county, and for other purposes;
which was read the first and second time by especial order, and passed.

Mr. Chapman, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An additional supplement to the
act, entitled, An act to prevent excessive gaming; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

A petition from John Imeson. praying the half pay of a sergeant, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr.
Chapman, Mr. Sanders and Mr. P. Stuart, to consider and report thereon.

ORDERED, That the printer to the state be directed to print one thousand copies of an act, entitled, A fur-
ther supplement to the act, entitled. An act for regulating the mode of staying executions, and repealing the
acts of assembly therein mentioned, and for other purposes, to be distributed by the members.

The following message was read and agreed to.

By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 12, 1808.
Gentlemen ef the Senate,

AT this crisis, when it is essential that the finances of the state should be carefully husbanded, it is our duty
to bring the session to as early a close as may be consistent with the interest of the state, and as we have no
business but what may be finished by the 20th instant, we propose, with the concurrence of your house, to ad-
journ on that day.

Mr. Bland, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of John Scott,
of the city of Baltimore; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

TUESDAY, December 13, 1808.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.

The bill to revive and continue an act, entitled, An act authorising Joseph Green, late sheriff and collector
of Charles county, to complete his collection, the bill to authorise the levy court of Prince-George's county to
assess and levy on the assessable property of said county a sum of money for the purposes therein mentioned,
the bill for the benefit of the corporation of the Roman catholic clergymen the further additional supplement
to an act, entitled, An act to incorporate companies to make several turnpike roads through Baltimore county,
and lor other purposes, and the message proposing to close the session, were sent to the senate by the clerk.

A petition from James Cochran, of Caecil county, praying further time to complete his collection, was pre-
ferred, read, and referred to Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Porter and Mr. Hart, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Lydia Lucas, of the city of Baltimore, praying a divorce, was preferred, read, and referred
to Mr. Bland, Mr. R. Steuart and Mr. Sanders, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Herbert, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to lay out and open a road
in Prince-George's county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

The report of the committee on the petition of Robert Halkerstone, was read the second time, the resolu-
tion therein contained assented to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

Mr. Carroll, from the committee, deliver to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of sundry inhabitants of Baltimore and Anne-Arundel
counties, praying that they might be authorised to open a road from the city of Baltimore, by the mouth of
Gwinn's Falls, in as straight a direction as the nature of the ground would admit until it intersects the present
road leading to Washington, near to Mr. Snowden's, and praying that the same might be kept up at the expense of
