NATURAL DIVISIONS.—The great Chesapeake
Bay making up through the middle of the state,
from north to south, elongated by the Susque-
hanna river, divides it into tv o parts, familiar-
ly termed the Eastern Shore and the Western
Shore. The Eastern Shore contains about one-
third of the superficies of the state. The rela-
