SENATE JOURNAL

EXTRAORDINARY SESSION, NOVEMBER 10, 1950

ANNAPOLIS, MD., Thursday, November 10, 1950.

STATE OF MARYLAND, TO WIT:

Friday, the tenth day of November in the year nineteen hundred
and fifty, at 12.30 o'clock P. M., being the day appointed by the
Proclamation of the Governor of Maryland for the meeting of the
General Assembly of Maryland in Special Session, the Senate was
called to order by the Secretary of the Senate.

The following Senators answered to their names:

Senators:

Bailey, Balch, Barton, Beck, Byrnes, Carter, Davis, Della, Ellison, Fraley,
Goldstein, Hoff, Hofferbert, Guy Johnson, Kimble, McAllister, McLaughlin,
Monroe, O'Neill, Phoebus, Shallcross, Sotheren, Storm, Stromberg, Stro-
meyer, Thomas, Turnbull, White. Total—28

Twenty-eight Senators having answered to their names, and a
quorum being present, the Senate of Maryland—Special Session of
November 10th, 1950, is now ready for the transaction of business.

Prayer was offered by Senator Guy Johnson.

The first order of business will be the election of a temporary
presiding officer. Are you ready for the question?

The Hon. H. Herbert Balch, duly seconded, nominated the Hon.
Paul G. Stromberg. There being no other nominations, the Hon.
Paul G. Stromberg was unanimously elected. The Senator from
Carroll County and the Senator from the Third District of Balti-
more City escorted the Hon. Paul G. Stromberg to the chair.

The President pro-tem delivered a short address.

The next Order of Business was the election of a permanent
Presiding Officer.

The Hon. Joseph E. Byrnes of the Fifth District of Baltimore
City, duly seconded, nominated the Hon. L. Harold Sothoron of
Prince George's County for the President of the Senate.

There being no other nominations, the nominations were closed.
