WM. PRESTON LANE, JR., GOVERNOR. 1891

22, 1949, this being the 217th anniversary of the birth of
General George Washington, in order to participate in a pro-
gram honoring the founders of the Republics of the Western
Hemisphere; and be it further

Resolved,, That the Honorable William Preston Lane, Jr.,
Governor of Maryland, also is invited to participate in the
ceremonies, representing the people of the State of Mary-
land and as the first citizen of the State, together with Rear
Admiral James L. Holloway, Jr., Superintendent of the
United States Naval Academy in the City of Annapolis, and
the Honorable William U. McCready, Mayor of the City of
Annapolis; and be it further

Resolved, That the Governor of Maryland be and he is
hereby requested, on behalf of the State of Maryland, to in-
vite to these ceremonies the President of the United States,
together with the Secretary of State and the Secretary of
Navy of the United States, to be the special guests of the
State of Maryland on this occasion; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of State of Maryland be and
he is hereby requested, on behalf of the State of Maryland,
to invite the several honorary guests representing the Or-
ganization of American States, to the ceremonies in the City
of Annapolis on February 22, 1949; and be it further

Resolved, That the Governor of Maryland be and he is
hereby requested to name two persons who, together with
two persons to be named by the President of the Senate of
Maryland and two persons to be named by the Speaker of
the House of Delegates of Maryland, will comprise a com-
mittee of six persons to arrange for and make all necessary
plans and preparation for the program honoring the founders
of the Republics of the Western Hemisphere and reaffirming
the ideals of democracy, to be held in the City of Annapolis
on February 22, 1949.
