its costly public buildings, its invaluable archives and so forth
and more than all, the honor and dignity of the nation.
Resolved, That the governor, be and he is hereby request-
ed, to cause a copy of the foregoing resolutions, to be sent
to each of the senators and representatives of this Stale, in
the congress of the United Stales, to be laid before the two
houses of congress.

Resolutions in relation to the Santa Fe Traders, &c

WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assembly,
that an expedition of traders from Texas to Mexico, was
captured and made prisoners at Santa Fe, and arc now held
in captivity by the government of Mexico; and whereas, it
is further represented that John T. Howard, a citizen of
Maryland, and others, citizens of other States accompanied
said expedition, and it is the duty of the government of the
United States, to extend to its citizens under all circumstan-
ces, such relief and protection as it-is within its competency
to grant—therefore.
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
his excellency the President of the United States, he re-
quested to use such means as the constitution of the United
States, and the public law of nations may authorize for
ameliorating the condition of the persons captured as afore-
said, and especially for the purpose of protecting and de-
manding such citizens of the United States as may have ac-
companied said expedition.
Resolved, That his excellency the governor, be requested
to cause a copy of the foregoing preamble and resolutions
to be forwarded to the President of the United States, and
also to each of our senators and representatives in con-
gress.
