CHAPTER 6.

1842.

An act regulating the compensation of the County Surveyor,
and prescribing certain duties therein named, so far as the
same relates to Cecil County.

Preamble.

Whereas, By an act regulating officers fees, by the Gen-
eral Assembly of Maryland, at the session of seventeen hun-
dred and seventy-nine, chapter twenty-five, a table of fees
was given, by which the surveyors of the several counties
have their services rated by an allowance in tobacco; and
whereas, since said period the character of surveys is much
changed, and the rates then regulating the surveyors fees, do
not cover the necessary labor they now have to undergo,,
but leave a portion thereof to be covered and met by usage
without the sanction of law—therefore,

charge 4 dollars

per day.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the surveyor of Cecil county be, and he is
hereby authorized to charge for his individual services, un-
der warrants of survey or re-survey, directed from the
land office; under orders or warrants of re-survey, directed
from the county court, and under orders directed from the
chancellor, a per diem of four dollars for each day he may
necessarily be engaged in performing the duty the said or-
ders or warrants may enjoin; and the said surveyor, when
the same shall be required by the persons for whom the ser-
vices shall be rendered, shall state his account of such ser-
vices under oath.

To keep record.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the present and succeeding surveyors of Cecil county, to
keep a regular alphabetical record of the surveyor's dupli-
cate certificate of all surveys and re-surveys hereafter made
by virtue of warrants or orders issued as aforesaid, and that
the record book or books shall be procured at the cost of
the county, and that the said record books shall be the pro-
perty of the county, and shall be kept in the surveyor's of-
fice, and be handed down to the successive county sur-
veyors.,
