CHAP. 2.

Present bills;

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Benjamin S.
Ireland, before he proceeds to execute for any fees, taxes,
or other dues as aforesaid, shall present to each indebted
individual, a bill of such claim or claims, and if such indi-
vidual or individuals, shall make oath or affirmation, before
a justice of the peace of Calvert county, that he, she or
they paid or settled such demands with the late Richard E.
Ireland, then such oath or affirmation shall be a full sett off
to, and forever bar the collection of such claim or claims.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That this act shall continue
and be in force until January the first, eighteen hundred
and forty-four.

An act entitled, An act to incorporate the Baltimore Murray

Institute.

Incorporated.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Reverend James Shrigley, Loammi
Burgess, James L. Camp, Ephraim Lurkens, John C. Hol-
land, Isaac S. George, Elisha Harrington, Joseph Breck,
John Ross and their associates and successors, be, and they
are hereby created a body politic, by the name, style and
title of The Baltimore Murray Institute, and by that name
shall have succession, and shall be able and capable in law
to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, to answer and
be answered, in any court of law or equity, to make and
use a common seal, and the same to alter and change at
pleasure, to ordain and establish such bye-laws and regula-
tions as may be necessary or convenient for conducting the

affairs of the corporation; provided the same be not contra-
ry to the laws of the United States, the state of Maryland,
or the corporation of the city of Baltimore.

Lectures.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the objects of this
corporation are declared to be, the promotion of literature,
the diffusion of knowledge, and the encouragement of mo-
rality and religion among the young men of Baltimore, by
the delivery of lectures, recitations and the discussion of
moral, religious and literary questions.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the affairs of said corpo-
ration shall be managed and conducted by a President,
Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Librarian and a
board of five Curators, all of whom shall be elected by
ballot, annually, at the first regular meeting in April, and in.
such manner as said society may appoint.
