At a SESSION of the GENERAL ASSEMBLY of
MARYLAND, begun and held at at the CITY of
ANNAPOLIS, on Monday, the 7th of November,
and ended the 25th of December, in the year of our
Lord 1808, the following Laws were enacted.

ROBERT WRIGHT, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

CHAP. I.

 

An ACT to settle and ascertain the salary of the members of the
council for the ensuing year.

Dec. 1808.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That each member of the council shall be
entitled to receive, for the ensuing year, the sum: of two hundred pounds current money for
his salary.
CHAP. II.

Salary ascer-
tained.

An ACT to make public a road in Prince-George's county.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly. of Maryland, That the road in Prince-George's county
leading out of the mam north and south road from Piscataway to its junction with the road
leading to Fort Warburton, on Patowmack river, from the main road from George town to Pisca-
taway, at Slash creek, be and the same is hereby declared, deemed and taken to be, a public road
for ever, and shall hereafter be kept up and repaired as other public roads are in said county.

An ACT for the relief of John Garner, of Charles county.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the justices of the levy court of Charles
county be and they are hereby empowered, it in their discretion they shall deem the same right
and proper, at their meeting for the purpose of laying their county levy, to assess and levy annual-
ly, so long as the same shall be necessary, a sum of money, not exceeding forty dollars, on the as-
sessable property of the said county, for the support and maintenance of the aforesaid John Garner,
to be collected as other county charges are, and paid to the said John Garner, or his order.

Justices to levy
money, &c.

An ACT to incorporate the trustees of the male free-school of Bal-
timore.

Dec. 1808.

WHEREAS institutions for the education of youth in the principles of virtue, knowledge and
useful literature, (especially charitable institutions, that paternally lead the children of po-
verty from their obscure abode, Furnishing gratuitously with education, to prepare them for useful
stations in society, ) are of the first importance: And whereas the methodist episcopal church in the
city of Baltimore, early in the year eighteen hundred and two, did establish a charity school, for
the education of male children; and it appearing to this general assembly, by the petition of the
trustees of the Male Free-school of Baltimore, that a number of youths have gratuitously received,
and are now receiving, useful learning in this institution, this general assembly, taking into consi-
deration the petition of Owen Dorsey, John Brevitt, Abner Neale, William Hawkins, Thomas E.
Bond, Moses Hand, William Browne, George Roberts and Joseph Jamison, praying that they may
be incorporated, for the purpose of perpetuating the benevolent design of the promoters of this ex-
cellent charity school; therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That Owen Dorsey, John Brevitt, Ab-
ner Neale, William Hawkins, Thomas E. Bond, Moses Hand, William Browne, George Roberts and
