Mode of inspec-
tion, &c.

SEC. 3. And, be it enacted, That all lime made in, or
brought to the city of Baltimore by land, for sale, or to be
used therein, except in cars on the rail road, and in which
case the inspectors must inspect on the road, within the
limits of the city, by being duly notified that such lime is
there for inspection, and all other lime brought to the city,
shall be taken to one of the stands appointed, and there
submitted, on the same day on which it was sold, to the
inspection and measurement of the persons appointed as
aforesaid, who shall inspect the same in the wagon, cart
or other carriage in which it is brought, agreeable to the

standard hereafter mentioned, and give the seller a certifi-
cate of the quantity thereof, and also of its quality, that.
whether it be first, second or third quality, for which cer-
tificate he shall be entitled to receive three-fourths of a
cent per bushel for his compensation.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all lime that is im-
ported into, or exported, or intended to be exported from
the city, sold or used therein, in barrels, hogsheads or
other casks, shall be inspected by one of the said inspec-

act shall be so construed as to compel the manufacturer of
lime to have such lime measured and inspected, when the
same has been bought for agricultural purposes, unless
where the purchaser in such case shall require an inspec-
tion.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That any person buying or
selling lime, not measured and inspected as aforesaid, shall
forfeit and pay ten dollars for every offence.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That if any wagon dri-
ver, owner or agent shall make use of any device in the
loading his wagon or other carriage, or in selling barrels,
hogsheads or other casks, or suffer any other person to do
so, with a view of deceiving the inspectors and measurer
in quantity thereof; or shall, after obtaining a certificate,
suffer any part of his load to be disposed of or diminish-
ed, and then sell or offer to sell the remainder for the quan-
tity mentioned in his certificate, or shall exchange his cer-
tificate for any other of a greater quantity or better quali-
ty, he shall forfeit and pay for every such offence ten dol-
lars.
