SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the superintendent
of the National road in Maryland he, and he is hereby
required to publish in one or more of the newspapers

printed in the town of Cumberland, semi-annually, ab-

stracts of receipts and expenditures on said road in
Maryland, naming the person or persons to whom pay-
ment or payments have been made, the sum or sums
paid, and the nature and character of the work done.

CHAP. 53.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the several accounts
of the said superintendent shall be audited quarterly by
some disinterested person or persons, who shall be ap-
pointed by the Executive for that purpose, and who
shall act under oath, and who shall be allowed for such
service two dollars per day, to be paid out of the tolls
collected on said road.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That from and after the
passage of this act, the superintendent of said road al-
low the toll gatherer, at gate number one, at the rate
of three hundred dollars per annum for his services as
such, until gate number two shall be erected and in
use.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That any thing contained
in the act to which this is a supplement, contrary to the
provisions of this act, be, and the same is hereby re-

pealed.

CHAPTER 53.

Repealing
clause.

An act to amend and reduce into one the act to Incorpo-
rate the American Life Insurance and Trust Compa-
ny, and the several supplements thereto.

WHEREAS, the American Life Insurance and Trust
Company, have, represented -to the legislature that it
is desirable that the several laws constituting the pre-
sent charter of the said company, omiting such provi-
sious therein as have been already executed, should bo
consolidated into one act in order that the powers and
duties of the said company may be more clearly un-
derstood, therefore,
