(House Bill 110)
AN ACT to add Section 106 (4a) to Article 77 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Public
Education", sub-title "Teachers' Retirement System",
said new section to follow immediately after Section
106(4) thereof (said Section 106(4) having been Section
97(4) in the 1939 Edition), giving to certain teachers
who did not elect to become members of the Teachers'
Retirement System a temporary right to make such an
election and relating generally to the possibility for such
an election.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 106 (4a) be and it is hereby added
to Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951
Edition), title "Public Education", sub-title "Teachers' Re-
tirement System", said new section to follow immediately
after Section 106(4) (said Section 106(4) having been Sec-
tion 97(4) in the 1939 Edition), and to read as follows:
106.
(ia). A teacher whose membership in the Retirement
System was contingent upon his own election who did not
elect to become a member and who, as of June 1, 1952, has
been continuously employed as a teacher since the time he
or she was first eligible for membership in said System,
shall have a right of election to join said System under the
provisions of this sub-section. Such right of election shall
apply and be effective only for the period beginning on the
effective date of this sub-section and continuing thereafter
for a period of one year. Any such teacher making an elec-
tion within that period shall receive all membership and
prior service benefits as provided for other members of the
System and in accordance with Sections 104, 106, 108 and
109 of this Article. Before being admitted to such member-
ship, any such person shall pay to the Retirement System
the full amount of what would have been his accumulated
contributions therein had he in effect belonged to the Sys-
tem from the time he was first eligible to become a member
