sub-title "Roads", as said section was amended by Chap-
ter 374 of the Acts of 1943, and Chapter 881 of the
Acts of 1945, and Chapter 735 of the Acts of 1949,
relating to the compensation of the County Road Su-
perintendent of Howard County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland
That Section 261 of Article 14 of the code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Howard
County", sub-title "Roads", as said section was amended
by Chapter 374 of the Acts of 1943, and Chapter 881 of
of the Acts of 1945, and Chapter 735 of the Acts of 1949,
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

261. The County Commissioners of Howard County
on or before the first day of May, in the year nineteen
hundred and fourteen and every second year thereafter,
shall appoint some competent person as County Road Su-
perintendent, for the term of two years, who shall have
had at least two year's practical experience in construct-
ing, building, maintaining and repairing roads in Howard
County, and who shall have the authority and right by and
with, the consent of the County Commissioners, to employ
such civil engineer as in his judgment he may deem pru-
dent and wise; the compensation of such engineer to be
agreed upon by the Road Superintendent and the engineer
prior to said Engineer's employment. Said County Road
Road Superintendent shall reside in Howard County dur-
ing his employment as such County Road Superintendent.
He shall receive a compensation of not more than [Three
Thousand Dollars ($3, 000. 00)
] Four Thousand Dollars
($4, 000. 00)
annually as may be provided by the County
Commissioners, payable monthly. Said County Road Su-
perintendent shall qualify within thirty days after his
appointment by the County Commissioners by subscribing
to the oath as required by Article 1, Section 6, of the Cons-
titution of the State of Maryland, and upon such qualifica-
tion shall execute in favor of the County Commissioners of
Howard County a corporate bond in the sum of One Thous-
and Dollars for the faithful performance of his duties. In
case of vacancy in the office of said County Road Superin-
tendent caused by death, resignation or otherwise the
County Commissioners shall within thirty days appoint
some competent person having the above qualifications
as County Road Superintendent for such unexpired term
caused by such vacancy.
