At a SESSION of the GENERAL ASSEMBLY of

MARYLAND, begun and held at the CITY of

ANNAPOLIS, on Monday, the 4th of November,

in the year of our Lord 1805 and ended the 28th

day of January, 1806, the following Laws were

enacted

CHAP. I.
An ACT to settle and ascertain the salary of the members of the
council for the ensuing year.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland,, That each member of the council shall be

entitled to receive, for the ensuing year, the sum of two hundred pounds for his salary.

Passed the 25th of
January, 1806.

CHAP. II.

An ACT granting leave to the trustees of Bethel congregation, in

Harford county, to receive a deed for, and hold, the land therein
mentioned.

WHEREAS the trustees of Bethel congregation, by their petition to this general assembly,
have represented, that the said congregation bought three acre's of land under lease for the
purpose of building a house of worship, and paid for the same, a considerable time before the Ame-

rican revolution; that they erected a house of worship thereon, and laid out a portion thereof for a

burying ground, which hath been used for these purposes ever since; that the said congregation hath
been incorporated according to law, and have purchased the fee in said three acres from the state,
and have paid the composition money into the treasury, and did appoint Thomas Hope, a member
of the: society, to obtain a patent for the same for the use of said congregation, and that the patent
hath issued in his name accordingly, and that he being advanced in years, is desirous to convey the
same to the said trustees, but they are precluded from receiving the same by the declaration of rights,
without leave, of the legislature; they also represent, that any diminution will most materially in-
jure said lot, either by taking away the church or excluding a large part of the burying-ground,
they therefore pray that a law may pass granting leave, and authorising the said Thomas Hope, to
convey to said trustees and their successors, the said three acres of land for the purposes aforesaid;

and the same being considered reasonable, therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the leave of this legislature is here-

by given to the said Thomas Hope to convey to the trustees of Bethel congregation and their suc-
cessors, in fee, by deed of bargain and sale, to be executed, acknowledged and recorded, according
to law, all and singular the three acres of land, whereon is erected the house of worship, and which
includes the burying-ground, belonging to said congregation, and the said trustees, and their succes-
sors, are hereby authorised and empowered to hold the same for the purposes aforesaid for ever
hereafter.

Passed 25th of
January, 1806.

CHAP. III.
An ACT for the relief of Thomas Webb, of Montgomery county.

WHEREAS Thomas Webb, of Montgomery county, emigrated to, and settled in, this state,
and since his emigration and settlement as aforesaid, has acquired real property therein, and

his title to such property, from his not having become naturalized agreeably to the laws of the

United States, may be called in question, to his great detriment and injury; therefore,
