provement of said Hospital; provided, the said president
and visitors shall give bond and security, to be approv-
ed by the Treasurer, for the faithful disbursement and
application of said sum of money.
And be it further resolved, That the Governor be re-
quested to have full estimates made of the cost of addi-
tional buildings to the Maryland Hospital, suitable for
the accommodation of the insane persons now in the
Baltimore alms-house and in the Maryland penitentiary,
numbering about one hundred and six persons, and to
ascertain the cost if carried to 150 persons, for the use
of the insane poor of this State, and to report to the
first meeting of the Legislature after its present ses-

sion.

Resolutions of thanks to Lieut. Col. Emory, for gallant
conduct in Mexico.

Resolved unanimously by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the thanks of the General Assembly of
Maryland are due and are hereby presented to William
H. Emory, a native citizen of Maryland, 1st Lieute-
nant of United States Topographical Engineers, and
now Lieutenant Colonel of United States volunteers,
serving with his regiment in Mexico, for his skill, intel-
ligence and good conduct exhibited in the campaigns in
New Mexico and California, in the years 1846 and
1847, and particularly for his gallantry displayed in the
battle of San Pasquall.
Resolved, That the Governor be and he is hereby
requested to communicate a copy of these resolutions to
Lieut. Colonel Emory, in such manner as he may deem
most appropriate.
