No. 4.

Resolution appointing agents on the part of this State
to settle and adjust with the Government of the
United States, the claims of this State upon that
Government, which claims are set forth in resolution
Number thirty-four of December session eighteen
hundred and forty-two, and in resolution Number
twenty-eight, of December session eighteen hundred
and forty-four.

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Benjamin C. Howard and William D. Merrick,
Esquires, be, and they are hereby appointed agents on
the part of this State, to settle and adjust with the Go-
vernment of the United States, the claims of this State
upon that Government, which claims are set forth, and
particularly referred to in resolution number thirty-four,
of December session eighteen hundred and forty-two,
and in resolution number twenty-eight, of December
session eighteen hundred mid forty-four, upon such just
and equitable principles as they, the said agents may
find practicable.

Resolved, That as a compensation for their services
and expenses, the said agents be, and they are hereby
allowed and authorised to receive a commission of ten
per cent on such sum or sums of money as they may
actually recover, and cause to be paid over to the Trea-
surer of this State.

Resolved, That as soon as the said claim is settled
and the Government of the United States is prepared to
pay the amount as ascertained, the Treasurer of the
State of Maryland on the warrant of the Comptroller, is
hereby authorised to receive the same from the Govern-
ment of the United States, and to execute the necessary
receipt therefor.
