fore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Congress
of the United States be requested to pass legislation authorizing the
Army Corps of Engineers to make a survey of the Patuxnt River in
regard to flood control; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of State be directed to send copies of
this Joint Resolution, under the Great Seal of the State of Maryland
to the President of the Senate, to the Speaker of the House of Repre-
sentatives and to each member of the Maryland Delegation in the
Congress of the United States.

(House Joint Resolution 30)

Joint Resolution creating a permanent committee to be appointed
by the Governor for the regulation and study of migratory labor
in Maryland.

WHEREAS, In past years, seasonal farm labor has become a major
factor in Maryland, and the increase in farm production has necessi-
tated the importation in increasing numbers of out-of-state workers
from the southern states and from Puerto Rico, where the labor
supply is better suited for this type of arduous stoop labor than is
the local labor supply; and

WHEREAS, Many problems involving local and community action
arise pertaining to this migratory labor force; and some of these
problems include the recruitment of workers from distant points,
transportation, housing, health and sanitation facilities, child care,
schooling and community acceptance; and

WHEREAS, It is the desire of the General Assembly of Maryland
that these problems be studied in order to bring all the available
facilities of the affected governmental agencies and existing statutes
to bear on the vital issues that arise in connection with the use of
migratory workers; and
