1320                            Laws of Maryland                       [Ch. 794

Sections 395D and 395E, of Article 20 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Somerset County", sub-
title "Sheriffs", Section 395 having been last amended by Chapter
426 of the Acts of 1957, and Section 395D having been last amended
by Chapters 409 of the Acts of 1941 and 568 of the Acts of 1957,
and Section 395E having been enacted by Chapter 409 of the Acts
of 1941, relating to the expenses of the Sheriff of Somerset County,
the number and salary of his deputies and other employees, and
to the expenses of operation of the office of Sheriff of the county.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (s) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties",
be and it is hereby repealed and that a new Section 37 (s) be and it
is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand in the place and stead of
the section so repealed, and to read as follows:

37.

(s) (1) The Sheriff of Somerset County shall receive an annual
salary of three thousand six hundred dollars ($3,600.00), and an
annual allowance of six hundred dollars ($600.00) for expenses.
He shall appoint not less than two deputies, one of whom shall be
known as the chief deputy and shall receive an annual salary of
three thousand dollars ($3,000.00), the second deputy shall receive
an annual salary of two thousand seven hundred dollars ($2,700.00).
The sheriff may appoint such additional deputies at such compen-
sation as may be approved by the County Commissioners. The
sheriff or one of his deputies shall act as county jailer and for that
responsibility shall receive annual compensation, in addition to his
regular salary, in the amount of fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500.00).
The sheriff shall appoint a jail matron at an annual salary of six
hundred dollars ($600.00).

(2) The County Commissioners are hereby authorized to provide
the following for the use of the sheriff's office for law enforcement
at an annual cost not to exceed $10,000.00.

(i) Not more than three automobiles, plus necessary operating ex-
penses, including, but not limited to, gasoline, oil, insurance and
repairs;

(ii) Radio equipment;

(iii) Office supplies and equipment.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 395 of Article 20
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Somerset County", sub-title "Sheriff", Section 395 having been last
amended by Chapter 426 of the Acts of 1957, be and it is hereby
repealed.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That Sections 395D and 395E,
of Article 20 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Somerset County", sub-title "Sheriff", Section 395D
having been last amended by Chapters 409 of the Acts of 1941 and
568 of the Acts of 1957, and Section 395E having been enacted by
Chapter 409 of the Acts of 1941, be and they are hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
