therefor one copy of the law, journals and documents; provided
there be at the time of the application more than fifty copies of the
volume applied for in the Library.

167.

The [Librarian] Directory with the approval of the library com-
mittee of the Maryland State Library, shall have the power and au-
thority to sell from time to time such books, including the Maryland
Reports and Codes, maps and periodicals, in the State Library, as
they consider prudent and desirable to sell, and the proceeds of
such sales, after deducting the expenses incident thereto, to be paid
over to the Treasurer of the State within thirty days after the re-
ceipt thereof; provided no book, map or periodical shall be so sold
if its sale would break a set.

The library committee created by Section 166 of this article, is
authorized and empowered to appoint a person as director of the
State Library [and such other employees as may be deemed neces-
sary and at such compensation as shall be provided in the State
Budget. It shall be the duty of the said director and other employees
to perform such services as shall be required of them by the said
library committee] at such compensation as shall be provided in the
Budget and who shall perform such services as shall be required of
him by the Library Committee. Subject to the approval of the Li-
brary Committee, the Director may appoint such other employees
as may be deemed necessary and at such compensation as provided
in the Budget from time to time.

SEC. 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT SECTION
2 OF ARTICLE 70 OF SAID CODE, TITLE "OFFICIAL OATHS",
BE AND IT IS HEREBY REPEALED AND RE-ENACTED, WITH
AMENDMENTS, TO READ AS FOLLOWS:

The Secretary of State, the Judges of the Court of Appeals and
their Clerk, the Attorney General, the State Reporter, [the State
Librarian,] the Adjutant General, the Treasurer, Comptroller and
the Commissioner of the Land Office shall take and subscribe the
said oath before the Governor and the same shall be preserved in a
book to be kept by the Secretary of State.

Sec. 3. 5. And be it further enacted, That wherever in the laws of
this State there appears a reference to the "State Librarian" or to
the "Librarian" with reference to the "State Library", the same shall
be changed either to the words "State Library" or "Director" as
the context requires. This section specifically has reference among
others to Section 162 of Article 41 in the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1957 Edition).

Sec. 4. 6. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1959.
