LXXVII.

and is hereby revived and continued, and fhall be and remain in full force until
the thirtieth day of October, feventeen hundred and ninety-nine, and until the
end of the next feflion of aflembly which fhall happen thereafter. That another
act of aflembly, entitled, An act to regulate the infpection of tobacco, paffed
November, feventeen hundred and eighty-nine, and an act to eftablifh a third in-
fpection of tobacco in George-town, in Montgomery county, paffed November,
feventeen hundred and ninety, and a fupplement to an act, entitled, An act to
regulate the infpection of tobacco, paffed November, feventeen hundred and nine-
ty, be and they are hereby continued, and fhall be and remain in full force until
the thirtieth day of October, feventeen hundred and ninety-five, and until the
end of the next feflion of aflembly which fhall happen thereafter. That one
other act of affembly, entitled, An act relating to the eftates of deceafed perfons,
paffed November, feventeen hundred and feventy-nine, be and is hereby conti-
nued, and fhall be and remain in full force until the thirtieth day of October,
feventeen hundred and ninety-three, and until the end of the next feffion of af-
fembly which fhall happen thereafter.

C H A P. LXXVIII.

Paffed De-
cember 23.

An ACT to fettle and pay the civil lift and other expences of
civil government.

Preamble.

WHEREAS thofe who dedicate their time, abilities and labour, to the
public, ought to receive a reafonable and adequate compenfation for
their fervices,

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the following
officers of civil government, for the time being, fhall be entitled to receive at the
rate of the following falaries, in current money, for the enfuing year, to wit: The
treafurer of the weftern fhore, fix hundred pounds; the treafurer of the eaftern
fhore, one hundred and fifty pounds; the auditor, two hundred pounds; the
clerk of the council, two hundred and fifty pounds; the clerk of the fenate,
thirty pounds; the clerk of the houfe of delegates, feventy-five pounds; the
printer to the flate, three hundred and feventy-five pounds; the meffenger to the
council, fifty pounds.

Monies to be
firft applied,

III. And be it enacted, That all monies which fhall remain in the treafury af-
ter difcharging the journal of accounts, and all monies heretofore appropriated to
the ufe of congrefs, which fhall hereafter be received, and all unappropriated
money which may come into the treafury, be firft applied to the payment of the
civil lift for the enfuing year.

C H A P. LXXIX.

Paffed De-
cember 23.

An ACT to continue the acts of affembly for the infpection of
falted provifions exported and imported from and to the town
of Baltimore, and for other purpofes.

nued.

Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That an act of aflem-
bly, entitled, An act for the infpection of falted provifions exported and
imported from and to the town of Baltimore, pafled at a feffion of affem-
bly, begun and held at the city of Annapolis on Monday the fixth day of No-
vember, one thoufand feven hundred and eighty-fix, and one other act of affem-
bly, entitled, A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the infpection of
falted provifions exported and imported from and to the town of Baltimore, fo
far as the fame is not altered or amended by this act, fhall be and is hereby con-
tinued, and fhall remain in full force to the thirtieth day of October, one thou-
fand feven hundred and ninety-feven, and to the end of the next feflion which
fhall happen thereafter.

II. And, whereas the fize of the barrels have been found inconvenient to
traders, Be it enacted, That from and after the firft day of March next, it fhall
