C H A P.

An ACT For the payment of the journal of accounts.

WHEREAS it appears by the journal of accounts of this feffion, that
there is now due from the ftate the fum of feven thoufand eight
hundred and one pound eight fhillings and nine-pence current
money ;

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the treafurer of
the weftern fhore fhall and he is hereby authorifed and required to pay the feveral
perfons, their executors, adminiftrators, affigns or orders, or to fuch of them as
fhall offer to receive the fame, the feveral fums of current money allowed to them
refpectively, as they appear to be fettled and afcertained by the faid journal of ac-
counts, out of any money now in the treafury, or that fhall come into the trea-
fury, fubject to the appropriation of the general affembly.

RESOLUTIONS affented to November Seffion, 1793.

RESOLVED, That the truftees of the poor of Queen-Anne's county be and they are
hereby authorifed to pay the claim of Edward Downes, as regifter of Queen-Anne's county
fchool, out of any monies in their hands appropriated to the fupport of the poor of faid county,
with intereft thereon from the time his claim was adjufted by the vifitors of faid fchool till
the fame fhall be difcharged.

RESOLVED, That Moles Patterfon, now confined in Caecil county gaol, be entitled to all the be-
nefits of an act of affembly paffed laft feffion, entitled, An act for the relief of fundry infolvent debtors,
on his making application to the honourable the chancellor as by the faid act is directed and required,
on or before the firft day of April next, and complying with the terms of the faid act

RESOLVED, That the treafurer of the weftern or eaftern fhores pay to Samuel Handy, guardian of
Robert Jenkins, Henry Handy, Samuel Handy, Gertrude Handy and Nancy Handy, and for their
ufe, the fum of £.38 fpecie, out of any unappropriated money in either of the faid treasuries.

WHEREAS Thomas Yates, of Baltimore county, on the tenth of November, feventeen hundred
and eighty-one, and fourth of February, feventeen hundred and eighty-two, at the fale of the confifcated
eftate of the Nottingham company, became the purchafer of four negro men, two negro women, and
ten negro children, at the price of three thoufand and twenty, fix pounds, and bonded for the fame, with
Charles Myers and Jacob Myers, on the fifteenth of July, feventeen hundred and eighty-five, and the faid
Thomas Yates and Charles Myers have become infolvent, and the whole eftate of the faid Jacob
Myers hath been, by his executors, applied to the payment of his debts: And whereas there has
been paid to the ftate, on account of the faid bonds and purchafe, the fum of fix hundred and twelve
pounds four fhillings and ten-pence in black ftate money, the fum of three hundred and nineteen
pounds fix fhillings and ten-pence in fpecie, and the fum of fourteen thoufand and eighty-four dollars
and feventy-nine ninetieths in final fettlement certificates, and in fpecie and certificates the further
fum of four hundred and feventy-one pounds feven fhillings and five-pence, which payments are more
than the value of the property fold, and it will be attended with the ruin of the faid Jacob Myers's
reprefentatives to exaft the balance of the bonds aforefaid; therefore, RESOLVED, That the treafurer
of the weftern fhore be and he is hereby directed to deliver up, to be cancelled, the bonds of the faid
Thomas Yates, Charles Myers and Jacob Myers, and the right of the ftate to the balances due
thereon fhall be and is hereby relinquished and releafed, upon payment of the cofts of fuit (if any)
incurred by the ftate; provided, that no furplus of intereft, due on final fettlement certificates paid
into the treafury, fhall be refunded.

RESOLVED, That the treafurer of the weftern fhore pay unto Jonathan Hagar, of Wafhington
county, the fum of twenty-fix pounds eleven fhillings and eight-pence, being fo much overpaid by
him for public affeffments for the years one thoufand feven hundred and eighty-fix, eighty-feven,
eighty-eight, eighty-nine and ninety.

WHEREAS it is reprefented to this general affembly by the governor and council of this ftate, that
the fudden arrival at Baltimore of large numbers of ftrangers from Saint Domingo, with an armed
force, during laft fummer, had created reafonable fears in the inhabitants of faid town for their
peace and tranquillity, and occafioned an application from the magiftracy of the faid town for the ufe
of the public arms, which the peculiar circumftances of the cafe induced the executive to comply
with, although not ftrictly authorifed by any exifting law of the ftate fo to do; therefore, RESOLVED,
That this general affembly do approve the conduct of the executive in granting the temporary ufe of
the public arms to the volunteer companies of militia in the faid town, under me conditions ftated in
his excellency's letter of the 7th inftant.

RESOLVED, That the governor and council be and they are hereby authorised and required to
deliver to John Gaffaway, captain of the volunteer company of the city of Annapolis, fuch a number
of public arms as he may require, for the ufe of bis company, the faid John Gaffaway giving fuch
