C H A P.

LXXX.
An account to
be rendered,
&c.

V. And be it further enacted, That the faid commiffioners, or a majority of
them, after the faid new bridge is finifhed, fhall render to the juftices of the peace
of faid county, at their next levy court, a full and fair account of the expendi-
tures of the aforefaid fum of money, and if any furplus of money fhall remain
in the hands of the faid commiffioners, or any of them, they fhall pay over the
fame to the juftices of the peace, or fome three of them, which fhall be applied
to defraying the public charges of faid county.

C H A P. LXXXI.

Paffed De-
cember 24.

An ACT further extending the time for making returns of certain
certificates and plots.

Preamble.

WHEREAS it appears that feveral certificates and plots have not been
returned to the land-office of the weftern fhore within the time
limitted by an act paffed at November feffion, feventeen hundred and
ninety-four, entitled, An act further extending the time for making returns of
certain certificates and plots, and it is right and reafonable further to extend the
faid time; therefore,

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That all certificates
and plots, made agreeably to and in virtue of an act, entitled, An act afcertain-
ing the mode of getting titles to the purchafers of certain confiscated property,
which fhall or may be returned to the regifter of the land-office for the weftern
fhore on or before the firft day of Auguft next, fhall be received by the ex-
aminer-general, and be of the fame validity as if they had been executed and re-
turned agreeably to the time mentioned in the firft above recited act.

C H A P. LXXXII.

An ACT declaring the power of the governor in certain criminal
cafes.

Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the governor for
the time being fhall have full power and authority, and he is hereby re-
quired, whenever fentence of death is pronounced again ft any criminal by
the judgment of any court of this ftate, to iffue, under his hand, a warrant to
the fheriff of the county who by fuch judgment ought by law to execute the
fame, to order and direct the faid fheriff to execute the faid judgment, at fuch
time as in his warrant he fhall appoint, purfuant to fuch judgment.

II. And be it enacted, That the governor for the time being fhall have fall
power and authority, in his difcretion, to commute or change any fentence or
judgment of death, paffed on any criminal by any court of this ftate, into other
punifhment of labour, or to banifhment of fuch criminal from this ftate, upon
fuch terms and conditions, and for fuch period, as he fhall think expedient, and
if fuch criminal be a flave, againft whom any fuch judgment or fentence is or
may be paffed, to commute and change the faid judgment into tranfportation and
fale in fome foreign country, for the benefit of the ftate.

And grant noli

profequi on
conditions,
&c.

III. And be it enacted, That the governor for the time being fhall have full
power and authority, in granting any noli profequi before fentence or judgment, to
grant the fame on fuch conditions, and under fuch limitations and reftrictions
therein contained, as in his difcretion may appear moft advifeable to preferve and
fecure the peace and good government of this ftate.

An ACT to continue the acts of affembly therein mentioned.

Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the following
acts of affembly, to wit: An act to prevent the exportation of bread and
flour not merchantable, and for other purpofes, paffed November feffion,
one thousand feven hundred and eighty-one; another act, entitled, An act for
the fpeedy application of the monies appropriated for repairing the ftreets in Bal-
timore-town, in Baltimore county, and for other purpofes, paffed April feffion,
one thoufand feven hundred and eighty-two; another act entitled, An act to
