the Senate for the 1962 Regular Session, proceeded to call the Senate to
order, and the following Senators answered to their names:

2nd District—Hon. Joseph B. Mach

3rd District—Hon. J. Raymond Buffington, Jr.

4th District—Hon. J. Alvin Jones

5th District—Hon. Paul A. Dorf

6th District—Hon. George W. Delia
Baltimore County—Hon. James A. Pine
Calvert County—Hon. Edward T. Hall
Caroline County—Hon. Harry R. Hughes
Carroll County—Hon. Edward O. Weant, Jr.
Cecil County—Hon. Guy Johnson
Charles County—Hon. John Thomas Parran, Jr.
Dorchester County—Hon. Frederick C. Malkus, Jr.

Twenty-nine Senators having answered to their names, a quorum
being present, the Senate of Maryland 1962 Special Session is now ready
for business.

The first order of business will be the election of a temporary
presiding officer.

Are you ready for the question?

The Honorable George W. Delia nominated the Honorable Mary L.
Nock as temporary presiding officer, which nomination was seconded
by the Honorable James A. Pine. There being no further nominations,
the Honorable Mary L. Nock was unanimously elected temporary presid-
ing officer.

The Senator from Talbot County and the Senator from Garrett
County were appointed to escort the President Pro Tern to the Chair.

The Secretary then administered the oath of office to the President
Pro Tern.

Prayer was offered by Senator Phoebus.

The next order of business was the election of a permanent presiding
officer.
