terest and costs, on account of the injury to, or death of, more than one
person, in any one accident, provided that the applicable maximum
amount or the amount of the judgment, whichever is smaller, shall be
reduced by the total of amounts referred to in subsection (b) of Sec-
tion 162.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
April 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 82
(Senate Bill 25)

AN ACT to repeal Sections 6 through 13, inclusive, of Article 66C
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1963 Sup-
plement), title "Natural Resources," sub-title "In General," sub-
heading "Department of Tidewater Fisheries," and to enact new
Sections 6 through 13-L, inclusive, in lieu thereof, to stand in the
place of the sections so repealed, and to be under the new sub-
heading "Department of Chesapeake Bay Affairs," to create a De-
partment of Chesapeake Bay Affairs in place of the present De-
partment of Tidewater Fisheries, to create a Commission advisory
to the Department, and to provide for the powers, duties and em-
ployees of the Department of Chesapeake Bay Affairs, and relating
generally to the planning, development and management of the
Chesapeake Bay, other tidal waters and shores and of related
resources.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 6 through 13, inclusive, of Article 66C of the An-
notated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1963 Supplement),
title "Natural Resources," subtitle "In General," subheading "De-
partment of Tidewater Fisheries," be and they are hereby repealed,
and that new sections 6 through 13-L, inclusive, be and they are
hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand in the place of the sections
so repealed, and to be under the new subheading "Department of
Chesapeake Bay Affairs," and all to read as follows:

Department of Chesapeake Bay Affairs
6.

(a)  It is the intention of the General Assembly in the enactment
of this subheading that the planning, development, management and
conservation of the Chesapeake Bay and all other tidal waters and
the shoreline and bottoms thereof are the proper responsibilities of
the State of Maryland.

(b)  In order to assure that these responsibilities will be carried
out in a manner which will best serve the economic growth and social
needs of the State, there is hereby created a Department of Chesa-
peake Bay Affairs. The Department shall assume all functions and
responsibilities previously exercised by the Commission and Depart-
ment of Tidewater Fisheries, and shall have, in addition, such new
functions and responsibilities as are assigned to it in this subtitle.
