be established through a cooperative effort of concerned
professional organizations and specialty societies, in
conjunction with and supported by the Federal Department of
Health, Education and Welfare; and

WHEREAS, The Department of Health, Education and
Welfare agrees with the leading professional organizations
that voluntary guidelines set up with the cooperation of all
those concerned is the preferable approach to solve the
concerns expressed; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Maryland Neurosurgical Society, the Maryland Psychiatric
Society, the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, the
Maryland Psychological Association, the Mental, Health
Association of Maryland, and the Medical and Chirurgical
Faculty of Maryland establish a joint committee for the
purpose of setting up guidelines and the formation of a
review panel to regulate psychosurgical treatment in
Maryland; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
Charles M. Henderson M.D., President of the Maryland
Neurosurgical Society, Saint Agnes Medical Center, Suite
204, 3455 Wilkins Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21229; Lee C.
Park M.D., Suite 35, 1205 York Road, Lutherville, Maryland
21093; the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, Box 3235,
Catonsville, Maryland 21228; the Maryland Psychological
Association, 5970 Jacobs Ladder, Columbia, Maryland 21045;
the Mental Health Association of Maryland, 325 East 25th
Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21208; and the Medical and
Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland, 1211 Cathedral Street,
Baltimore, Maryland 21203.
