4 LAWS OF MARYLAND                         Ch. 1
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety and having
been passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of
all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the General
Assembly; the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1983. Approved March 8, 1983.
CHAPTER 2 (House Bill 131) AN ACT concerning General Assembly - Legislative Ethics Committee FOR the purpose of increasing the membership of the Joint
Committee on Legislative Ethics; and making this Act an
emergency measure. BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, Article 40 - General Assembly
Section 89 Annotated Code of Maryland
(1982 Replacement Volume)
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article 40 - General Assembly 89. The Joint Committee on Legislative Ethics is established.
The committee consists of [ten] 12 members, [five] 6 to be
members of the Senate of Maryland and [five] 6 to be members of
the House of Delegates of Maryland, and these members shall
include ex officio, the President of the Senate and the Speaker
of the House of Delegates. The appointments shall be made by the
President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House who shall
also appoint a chairman and vice-chairman or two cochairmen. If
cochairmen are appointed, one cochairman shall be appointed by
the President, and one cochairman shall be appointed by the
Speaker. The appointees shall serve at the pleasure of the
President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House.
