AN ACT concerning

Education - Public Schools - Publishing of Courses and Alternative Activities

FOR the purpose of requiring the county boards of education in the State, when
publishing lists or descriptions of courses for individual schools or for the county
school system, to provide specific information concerning the content of courses or
sections of courses for which there are alternative activities available for students,
together with content matter of and the methods of gaining access to the alternative
activities; and generally relating to the curricula of the public schools in the State.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

7-112.

WHEN A COUNTY BOARD PUBLISHES A LISTING OR A DESCRIPTION OF A
COURSE OR COURSES FOR AN INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL OR FOR THE COUNTY SCHOOL
SYSTEM, THE COUNTY BOARD SHALL INCLUDE AS A PART OF THE LISTING OR
DESCRIPTION SPECIFIC INFORMATION CONCERNING:

(1) THE CONTENT OF ANY COURSE OR ANY SECTION OF A COURSE FOR
WHICH THERE ARE ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE FOR A STUDENT WHO
DOES NOT WISH TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COURSE OR SECTION OF THE COURSE;

(2) THE CONTENT OF THE ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES THAT ARE
AVAILABLE; AND

(3) THE METHODS BY WHICH A STUDENT CAN GAIN ACCESS TO THE
ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES FOR A COURSE OR A SECTION OF A COURSE

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1997.
