          Be it remembered that on this thirtieth day of April 1857
before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for Howard County
appears John L. Brown and acknowledges the above instrument
of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent
and meaning thereof      And at the same time appeared
before me Mary G. Waters the grantee in the said Bill of
Sale named and made oath that the consideration set forth
in said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth

    James Mackubin
This Indenture made this sixth day
of June in the year Eighteen hundred
and fifty seven by & between Comfort
W. Dorsey of Baltimore City & State of
                          Maryland of the one part & James Mackubin of Howard County
                          & same State of the other part            Witnesseth that the said
                          Comfort for the consideration hereinafter mentioned hath bargained
                          and sold & by these presents doth grant bargain & sell to the said
                          Mackubin his executors administrators & assigns within the
                          State of Maryland a certain Negro boy her slave for life
                          called "Daniel Webster" who will be seven years of age on the
                          twenty second day of this month      To have and to hold the
                          said negro boy within the State of Maryland as aforesaid
                          until he attain the age of twenty one years & no longer
                             And the said Mackubin his executors administrators
                          & assigns in consideration of the above do on their parts
                          respectively promise covenant & agree to well & faithfully
                          find & provide for the said negro boy good & sufficient
                          meat, drink, clothing, lodging and other necessaries fit and
                          convenient for such a boy & to treat him in all respects as
                          such a servant boy ought to be treated during the term
                          for which he is above bargained & sold      In testimony
                          whereof the said Comfort W. Dorsey & James Mackubin
                          do hereunto set their hands & seals the day & year first
                          above written
