against them or him or desaring of punishment in any degree
or that the said William Chapman his executors administrators
or assigns have incurred or sustained any loss
damage or expense by the conduct of said slaves or either
of them then the said Court or Judge may determine or
adjudge that they or either of them shall either be sold
out of said state for the time above limited or for any longer
period or be adjudged and bound to serve the said
William Chapman his executors administrators or assigns
for such longer period as the said Court or Judge
may fix and determine
    To Have and To Hold the said two negroes for the
respective terms hereinbefore mentioned to the said William
Chapman his Executors Administrators and assigns
    In Testimony Whereof the said Thomas S Herbert and
William Chapman have hereunto set their hands and
seals on this seventh day of March 1850 Eighteen hundred
and fifty

    Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this
Seventh day of March eighteen hundred and fifty before
the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland
in and for the District aforesaid personally appeared
Thomas S Herbert and acknowledged the foregoing
instrument of writing to be his act and deed and at
the same time also personally appeared before me
William Chapman the grantee named in the foregoing
Bill of Sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely
of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in the
foregoing bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein
set forth.   In Witness Whereof I do hereunto subscribe
my name on the day and year aforesaid

Maryland begun and held at the City of Annapolis
on the first Wednesday of ^in^ January being the fourth
day of the said month in the year of our Lord one
