              538 Appendix to Council Proceedings, 1696/7-98.

         P. R. O.      [Baltimore's Petition.]

         To the King's most excellent Majestie

               The humble Petition of

               Charles Lord Baltimore

              Sheweth,

                That in an Assembly held in Maryland 1692 by Col: Lyonel

              Copley your Majs late Govr amongst other Acts there was one

              past entituled An Act for the secureing the Rights of severall

              Persons. In which it is enacted that all Lands surveyed be

              fore the 10th July 1689 shall be held and enjoyed by the per

              sons for whom the same were surveyed, without being obliged

              to take Patents & Grants from the Petr And likewise that

              were warrants only were granted and the Lands not surveyed

              for the five years last past that the Persons to whom such

              Warrants were granted may proceed to survey your Petrs

              Land and enjoy the same as if Patent had been granted by

              yr Petr. All which being designed by that Act to take away

              & utterly destroy your Petrs right & property to his Lands in

              that Province.

                Does therefore most humbly pray your Maj: to dissent to

              that Bill or Act & that your Majs Govrs (for the time being

              there) may have directions & Orders for the laying that Act

              aside & that noe Person presume to survey take up and hold

              any of your Petitioner's Lands without the same be first sur

              veyed by Surveyors appointed by your Petitioner and after

              wards past into Patents and Grants under the hand and seale

              of your Petr as formerly.

                And your Petitioner as in duty bound &c.
