His Excellency lays before the Board the Right honble the
Lords of Plantations & Trade their Letter relating to the Law
for Religion dated June 17th 1701 which was read with the
sd proposed Law
Also his Majesty's Letter to his Excellency requiring this
Province to contribute a Quota of Men and Mony to the
Defence of the Frontiers of New York


Whereupon the said Law and Letter with the following
Message be sent to the House by all the Gentn of the Coun-
cill Present

By his Excellency the Governour and Councill
in Assembly March the 17th 1701
Gentlemen
The Law prepared for Establishmt of religious Worship in
this Province returned from his most Sacred Majesty with the
right honble the Lds Commrs of Trade and Plantations Letter
therewith as also his Majesty's Letter requiring your Contri-
bution to the defence of the Frontiers of his Province of New
York by a Quota of Men and money which his Excellency
recommended to you in what he was pleased to Say last night
upon your coming up are now sent down to you for your Con-
sideration and your Concurrence & Resolutions thereon are
desired with as much Speed as conveniently may be

Came Major Dent and Lieutt Col Thomas Smith from the
House, and Major Dent Says the House have received his
Excellency's Message and as to the latter Part thereof desir-
ing their Concurrence and Resolutions with as much Speed
as conveniently may be They humbly acquaint his Excellency
that at present they cannot proceed thereon for that the Bur-
gesses of two Countys are wholly wanting and other Burgesses

from Several other Countys.
Came Col John Hammond and was added to the Board.

It being Enquired into by his Excellcy and the Board
whither all the Military Officers within this Province have
taken the oaths appointed by Act of Parliament instead of the
Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy.
