Read the Reverend Doctor Tho^s Bray's Letter to his Ex-
cellency about the Law of Religion of the 15^th July 1701

And the following Paragraph thereof sent to the House with
Recommendation of this board by Col Edw^d and M^r James
Sanders viz
I must not omitt to lett your Excellency know that the Bur-
then has laid extraordinary upon me I have been at a very
great Charge with Council & otherwise while the Affair of
that Law lay before the Board of Trade and when the Quakers
could not get their Ends there but a new bill would be sent
back with the Kings recommendations to be passed into a Law
they did then Petition his Majesty to be heard in Council against
it where I was also ordered to appear with my Council in be-
half of the Country of their Proceedings and of this both now
to be sent this Hearing alone did also cost me near 2olb I
bless God the victory was very Easy as to the arguments and
the Inclinations of the Court was & is as great as I could de-
sire to do us right, but it is upon too unequal Terms that a
Private and Single Purse must maintain the Cause of a
Country against a whole Party my own Pains and Time in this
Affair I willingly make an offering of together with what other
Services have been done to the Country but as to mony out
of Pocket in Solliciting an Affair of the greatest Importance to
Maryland I shall expect to be reimbursed which was upwards
of 5olb and humbly recommend it to your Excellency to rep-
resent this to the next Assembly

The above is a Copy of a Paragraph of the Reverend Doctor
Tho^s Bray's Letter to his Excellency the Governour and this
Board do recommend to your House that you would Consider
the charge the said Doctor Bray has been at for the Service of
this Province for the Credit of which it is not doubted but you
will be ready to reimburse him what he mentions to have ex-
pended
His Excellency is pleased to send for some of the Arms
which were last sent for from M^r Tryon which were liked of
and ordered that an hundred p^ds worth yearly of such arms be
sent for with twenty Barrels of Powder
M^r Lloyd and M^r Bradley bring the bill for prohibiting the
abuses of Horse and Wood Rangers which was read and
agreed to and sent to the house by Col Lloyd and Lieut^t Col
William Holland
