man to acquaint his Ex^cy that the house is mett according to
Prorogation but cannot proceed for want of a Clerk

By his Ex^cy the Gov^r & Councill in Assembly
Aprill 26^th 1700

Gent Understanding by your verball Message by Maj^r
Thomas Smith and three other of your Members that your
house is mett according to Proclamation of Prorogation to
this day, and that you desire to be appointed you a Clerk, his
Ex^cy is Pleased to leave it to your house to nominate such
Clerke and Present him to him for his Approbation, no one
having as yett addressed his Ex^cy for that office

Orderd that Capt Rich^d Hill M^r James Saunders M^r Thomas
Hicks, Maj^r James Smallwood, Capt Phillip Hoskins, M^r Elisha
Hall and Coll^l Ninian Beale goe to his Ex^cy and carry the
verball message following : —
Being required to signify to his Ex^cy that W^m Taylard a
member of this house tenders his Service in the Office of a
Clerke of this house if his Ex^cy shall approve thereof and
Grant him Commission for the same
They returne and say they have delivered their message.
Coll. Hutchins and Coll. Jno Addison enters the house and
delivers the following message

By his Ex^cy the Gov^r & Councill in Assembly
Aprill 26^th 1700

Since the house have offered M^r W^m Taylard to be their
Clerke his Ex^cy is pleased to say that he does approve of him
to be a fitt and qualified pson for the Execution of that Office
and if the house will dispence with his Service is willing to
Commissionate him

Samuel Young M^r Benj Hall and M^r John Leech go and
acquaint his Ex^cy and Councill that they willingly dispence
with his Service as a Member and prayd his Ex^cy would grant
him Commission to officiate the office of Clerke of this house.
