Whereupon this Board do advise and are of Opinion that
forasmuch as Wee have no Advice of any more Shipps from
Europe intended hither untill Octob. next (Capt Harbin the
last Expected being arrived) by which such Letters might
come, the meeting of the Assembly should not be deferred;
but that it is absolutely expedient they sitt upon the 26th
Instant according to prorogation.
Which sd proceedings of his Exncy in Councill were well
approved of by this Board.
Came from the House Colonel John Thompson Lt Colonel

Thos Smith Mr Richd Tilghman and Mr Wight Who acquaint
his Exncy that the house is mett according to proclamation of
prorogation to this Day, and desire his Exncy will be pleased
to appoint them a Clarke.
Whereupon the following Message was sent to the house
by the honble Colonel Jowles and Thomas Tench Esqr

By his Exncy the Govr and Councill in Assembly
Aprill the 26th 1700.

Gentn Understanding by Your Verbal Message by Major
Thomas Smith and three others of Your Members that Your
House is mett according to proclamation of prorogation to
this Day, and that you desire a Clarke to be appointed you;
His Exncy is pleased to leave it to your house to nominate such
Clarke and present him to him for his Approbacon no one
having as yett addressed his Exncy for that Office.

Came Capt Richard Hill Mr James Sanders and four other
Members Who Returne the Thanks of the house to his Exncy
for his great Condescension, and acquaint him that the House
are very desirous to have Mr Willm Taylard one of their Mem-
bers to be their Clarke if his Exncy be pleased to Assent

thereto.

In Answer to which was sent by Colonel Charles Hutchins
and Colonel Addison vizt

By his Exncy the Govr & Councill in Assembly
Aprill 26th 1700

Since the House have offered Mr Wm Taylard to be their
Clarke His Exncy is pleased to Say that he does approve of
him to be a fitt & qualified pson for the execution of that
