                  218 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1707.

                  Foreign Plantations according to their Lordships Directions

                  in yours to me. Sooner I could not send it with any Likeli-

                  hood of Safety, and remain with very true respect Sr.

                    Endorsed--Letter from Col. Seymour to the Secretary

                  Transmitting the old Seal of Maryland--Broken

      Lib. C. B.         Att a Councill held at the Towne and port of

          p. 76         Annapolis Fryday July 18th 1707.

                                Present as Yesterday.

                  Silvester Welch and Aron Rawlings appearing before the

                  Boarde. Silvester Welch Acquaints his Exncy Aron Rawlings

                  told him he was lett out to be an Evidence for the Queen.

                  Aron Rawlings Says its true he did tell Capt Welch so And

                  Says that Mahitable Holland told him She understood it came

                  from Thomas Reading that the said Welch was lett out to

                  be an Evidence for the Queen.

                    But Mrs Mahitable Holland not being to be had before the

                  board at this present they desire his Exncy will inquire there-

                  into.

                    Capt Welch again called in Says last Sunday night about

                  tenn of the Clock in Iohn Jacobs pasture he mett Richard

                  Clarke upon a Lusty Gray Horse and called to him Clarke

                  bid him stand off Clarke had a pistoll Stuffd within his

                  Iackett on his left Side a naked Rapier hanging on his wrist

                  & a good lusty Stick: Welch Asked if he might not come

                  up and Shake hands with him he told him not and would not

                  lett him Come near him.

                    Clark told him the Councill was to Sitt on the Wednessday

                  next and that he the said Welch was to be there Welch asked

                  who told him so Clark Answered he had ffriends Enough

                  Seemed very Shye of the Declarant. And believes he had

                  been informed of the Declarants Intention.

                    Welch askt Clark if he would not come to his house he said

           p. 77  no askt him if he would not give him a Meeting he promised

                  he would as of this night in a thickett of Woods near that

                  place but the noise of Some body coming by Affrighted him
